How to illustrate a branded T-shirt using Fresco and a Cricut machine

In this video, I show how to use Adobe Fresco to illustrate a custom t-shirt design (inspired by Mona Lisa and retro sales ads) and a Cricut machine to ‘print’ it at home.

Sound fun? Give it a watch below 👇!

In this video, we’ll be looking at:

  1. Creating a mood board for artistic direction.

  2. Drawing the artwork in Adobe Fresco and looking at its vector benefits.

  3. How to measure the design to fit proportionally on the shirt's back.

  4. How to set up the design in the Cricut Design Space programme to get it ready for the Cricut machine.

  5. Cutting and weeding the design to prepare it for transfer.

  6. Transferring the vinyl design onto the back of the t-shirt using an iron to apply heat.

  7. Enjoying a job well done! 🏆

Meanwhile, behind the scenes 👀…

I knew getting into long-form video creation this year would be a bit of a learning curve (both for being in front of and behind the camera). Still, I do think I underestimated the amount of time needed to invest in making even just a 10min video, like this one. Add in an additional camera angle, and the fun doubles…

This video took me a good 3-4 days at least to prepare for, film and edit (oh, the editing!). It had me questioning whyyyyy I committed to such a mammoth monthly task, especially when paid client work still needs to be prioritised. But what I have learnt so far is that I do quite enjoy adding in all the sound effects and GIFs to give it personality and that I can already see a bit of an improvement since my first (super short) intro video last month (and I hope you can too!).

While I’m still ironing out some technical/equipment issues, I think (as with most projects), that at some point we have to call it done, otherwise we’d spend an eternity chasing perfection and never end up actually sharing anything.

So, please enjoy my latest video and all its less-than-perfect quirks and beautiful sound quality.
